A message from the CAMHS Young People’s Board

The stories on this page have been written by young people with personal experiences of mental health difficulties. Some of these might be quite hard to read, and might describe feelings and situations that you or a friend or family member is going through right now.

We have shared them in the hope that they will help others to feel that they are not alone, and to understand that there is support out there and lots of people who care and will help you to get through difficult times.

It takes courage and bravery to ask for help, but once you take that first step you may find that new and positive opportunities, experiences and friendships open up to you, as they did for us.

We hope that the stories, and the other resources on this site, will help you to be aware of any signs you are struggling, encourage you to talk to someone about how you are feeling and access support, and most of all, believe that things will get better.

Use the map to find out about services in your area, or ask someone at your school, college, youth club or doctor’s surgery. See Need Help Now for people you can contact immediately.
